When I hear someone speak of purpose, it seems to most often refer to what they are meant to do. I have a purpose and it is to accomplish a goal, to achieve a task, or to excell in an undertaking. In this context, I know what I am meant to do and I set out to accomplish it.

What would it mean to my life if I changed the context from doing to being? Then I would ask, “What am I meant to be?” I have never seen a gravestone with the occupation Plumber, Developer, or CEO inscribed. I personally like the ones that say Grateful, Loving, or Faithful. These phrases speak to who the person was, not what they did.
